Coronavirus, COVID-19, Updates & News

February 27th, 2020 Update-

JAN-PRO continues to monitor the movements associated with the COVID-19 virus. This is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation and CDC and the World Health Organization will provide updated information as it becomes available, in addition to updated guidance.

The complete clinical picture with regards to COVID-19 is not fully understood. Reported illnesses have ranged from mild to severe, including illness resulting in death. This situation is still considered a global emergency, however, for the general public, who are unlikely to be exposed to this virus at this time, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low. Globally, there are now over 81,000 confirmed cases and the death toll has risen to over 2700 deaths.

Under current circumstances, certain people will have an increased risk of infection, for example, healthcare workers caring for patients with COVID-19 and other close contacts of persons with COVID-19. More cases are likely to be identified in the coming days, including more cases in North America. It’s also likely that person-to-person spread will continue to occur.

In Canada, JAN-PRO is increasing its production and throughput of our proprietary EnviroShield full disinfection service, as we are seeing increased demand for this solution. February 13th, 2020 Update:

The Coronavirus has a new name, COVID-19. The World Health Organization (WHO) has named the disease caused by the virus as COVID-19, avoiding any animal or geographic designation to avoid stigmatization and to show the illness comes from a new coronavirus discovered in 2019. At this time there are no vaccines or drugs to cure the virus, however, WHO recently held a 2-day forum with over 300 leading health experts from around the world to assess current knowledge levels and identify gaps, such as a cure. To find more information about this 2-day forum, please visit the WHO’s website here.

Although in Canada we are still an arm’s length away from a grave situation, the virus is still considered a global health emergency. With over 46,000 cases confirmed worldwide and a death toll now above 1300, COVID-19 has a higher mortality rate than the SARS outbreak of 2003. JAN-PRO Canada continues to monitor the situation and provide a resource for information. Again, your best forms of prevention continue to be washing your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, sanitizing, keeping hands and fingers away from your eyes, nose, and mouth and avoiding contact with those that may be infected, or avoiding contact with infected areas.

If you are concerned about COVID-19 in your home or workplace, reach out to your local JAN-PRO office to learn how we can help through EnviroShield, an electrostatic sprayer of hospital-grade disinfectant. We can come in very quickly and efficiently to treat your facility, as we’ve done for many of our customers already.

February 6th, 2020 Update:

JAN-PRO is monitoring the Coronavirus situation closely. We continue to offer education and proactive solutions. Multiple customers have utilized our EnviroShield disinfection process as a preventative measure. The situation in Canada appears to be stable and the best recommendation is to continue to follow the recommendations provided by government health bodies, such as thorough hand washing, covering your mouth, using facial tissues and more. We will continue to update this page as more news becomes available.

January 29th, 2020:

It is still early but the Coronavirus is becoming a growing concern for those across the globe, including in Canada. As the number of confirmed cases increases, as well as potential cases, the need to be aware of the virus and how to protect yourself, grows.

JAN-PRO’s EnviroShield™ system is exclusive to JAN-PRO and combines a state-of-the-art electrostatic sprayer delivery system with a hospital-grade disinfectant that is proven and rated in the safest category possible.   EnviroShield is an electrostatic spray disinfectant system is unlike anything else available. They all feature a sprayer nozzle that adds an electrostatic charge to the disinfecting solution as it is applied so that it actually surrounds and clings to the surfaces it touches, killing harmful bacteria and viruses such as MRSA, Swine Flu, Avian Flu, Legionella, Norovirus, Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Tuberculosis and many more.

The Enviroshield process will deactivate all viral pathogens including novel viruses that are similar in structure to previously tested viruses such as H1N1 (Swine Influenza A), which like the Coronavirus is an animal originated infectious strain.  Laboratory testing was completed by ATS Labs using the JAN-PRO Enviroshield Process.  Observations of efficacy proved the EnviroShield chemistry to completely eliminate viral samples from all hard surfaces. Viruses will be eliminated via the chemical oxidation process that occurs when the viral molecules are in contact with Enviroshield chemical. When exposed to disinfectant delivered from the Electro-static Enviroshield sprayer all office surfaces will be coated uniformly with the disinfectant allowing the complete de-activation of the virus transmission.

Enviroshield is also safe for all surface types, and to animals and humans. Although not confirmed or tested directly against the Coronavirus, JAN-PRO believes that the Enviroshield system will be effective against Coronavirus. As an enveloped virus, Coronavirus is part of a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases* (  Enviroshield has been extremely effective against other enveloped viruses, thus we’re confident it will be just as effective against the Coronavirus.  According to Public Health Canada, one of the main ways to protect yourself is to clean and disinfect objects and surfaces. Nothing will disinfect entire rooms and offices better than the Enviroshield total disinfection system.

Enviroshield has previously been effective on the H1N1 virus outbreak, and due to their commonalities, we believe this is an effective measure in combating the disease. If you have concerns about your office, your employees and guests and would like to have Enviroshield performed in your office, please reach out to us.
